Using your Level Visa® Card

Using your Level Visa® Card

With your Level Card, you can pay for eligible goods and services under your plan, and see real-time balance updates in your app.

Depending on your employer, a physical card may be provided automatically, or you may need to order one in the app. Both virtual and physical cards can be added to your Apple Pay* or Google Pay mobile wallet—each card has a different card number.

Virtual card

  • Select Card > Show card details to see the card number, expiration date, and CVV.
  • Enter your password to see the details. Need a new password?
  • Having trouble seeing your card? Some corporate networks restrict it. Try a personal device or different network.

Physical card

  • To get a physical card, visit the Card section of the app, select Order a Level card, and confirm your mailing address. It should arrive within 5-7 business days.
  • To activate it, go to Card > Activate, enter the last four digits, and submit.
  • Hold on to your physical Level card, as it will remain active across plan years—even if your current balance is depleted.

Use your level card

  • Swipe, tap, insert the chip, or enter your card number online
  • Use your home address as your billing address or zip code
  • Purchases will show as Processing until they’re complete

Approvals, verification, declines, etc.

  • Verification required: If your purchase requires a receipt, you’ll have 30 days to submit it, and it should be processed within two days of receipt upload
  • Excluded items: If you purchase something that isn’t covered, you’ll have 15 days to complete payment through the Level App
  • Transaction approvals: Your card will be approved based on plan coverage rules and available balance
  • Declines: Your transaction may be declined if you purchase a non-qualified item or service, or if you have insufficient balance. Check the Activity section of your app for notifications about any declines.
  • ATMs: You can’t use your Level Card at an ATM.
  • Partial payments: Your Level card supports partial payments at some merchants, which can be used when the purchase amount exceeds your available balance.

Covered merchants
Level Visa® Card purchases from these merchants will be approved without a receipt, as long as you have enough in your benefit balance to cover the cost. For a Food benefit, for example, covered merchants might include grocery stores and restaurants.

Conditionally covered merchants
If you use your Level Card at one of these merchants, you’ll be prompted to add more information in the Level App to verify that your purchase is covered by your plan.

Once you’ve added the information, we’ll review the details, and you’ll be notified when your transaction is complete. If your purchase isn’t covered, or if you don’t provide the requested information, you’ll be asked to pay out of pocket for the transaction. Conditionally covered merchants often include superstores, wholesale clubs, or online marketplaces.

Excluded merchants
Some merchants may be set as excluded. That means your Level card will not work for purchases at these merchants, no matter what you purchase. Your Level Card will be declined at excluded merchants. If you make a purchase at an excluded merchant with a personal payment method for an item that is covered please submit a reimbursement request for these items.

Covered items
These items are covered under your plan. If you buy a covered item at a merchant that isn’t covered or conditionally covered, your Level Card will decline, but you can use a personal payment method and submit your receipt for reimbursement in the app.

Excluded items
Some employers choose to specify excluded items in their taxable plan. These items won’t be covered by your plan. If a member uses their Level Card and they’re prompted to upload a receipt, and their receipt shows that they bought an excluded item, they’ll be asked to pay the amount back. Any reimbursement requests for excluded items will be denied.

The Level Card can’t be used to purchase weapons or gift cards.

Manage your Level Card

  • Lock your card: If you believe your physical card is lost, you can lock it to prevent anyone from using it until you find it. Go to Card > Other cards > Physical Card > Lock
  • Report your card as lost, damaged or stolen: From Card, select Report and then select the impacted card. Once you report, we’ll suspend the impacted card and issue or send a new one.
  • Report fraudulent transactions: Use the app to report any unrecognized transactions in the app. We’ll investigate and restore your balance if needed.

Refunds

Contact the merchant directly to make a return and get a refund. Refunds may be issued as cash, store credit, or credited back to your Level Card. If refunded to the Level Card, the amount will be restored to your balance. Most refunds are processed within a few days, but can take up to 10 business days.
